Herschel Yater, Veedersburg, passed away Sunday evening. He was born in Marshall to Bervie and Goldie (Cain) Yater. He was self-employed for many years in construction, worked in several area factories, and also had owned Yater Furniture and Yater auto parts at one time.
He married Verna M Harriet on July 31, 1946, and she passed on October 23, 2008. She then married Sherry Bailey and she survives. Also, surviving are his children, Betty Jean (Yater) Leslie, Janet Pauline (Yater) Ellars, and Goldie Larue Yater, grandchildren, Matt Leslie, Jeremy Yater, Chad Jones, Amanda, and Mark Leslie, Angie Greene, and Dawn Long along with several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Harold Paul Yater, and siblings, Eldon Marrell Yater, Lloyd Francis Yater, Morriss Cliston Yater, James Carroll Yater, and Mary Alice (Yater) Leaman, Ruth Larue (Yater) Larson, Gerald Paul Yater, and Vernon Glenwood Yater.
