Hermine Guard, 78, took God’s hand and went to heaven on Saturday, August 28, 2010. She was born on January 18, 1932 in Unterageri, Switzerland.

Hermine came to America to act as a nanny for her cousin’s family in 1958. Liking the USA much, she decided to make it her home. She married Robert Guard and they made their home in Chicago until moving to Flagstaff in 1984. While in Chicago, Hermine worked as a waitress for the Yacht Club and the Ritz Carlton. In Flagstaff she worked for Kmart.

Hermine devoted her life to helping others. She made over 100 baby afghans out of donated yarn and donated these beautiful blankets to the Hope Crisis Center. She was referred to as “The Yarn Artist”. It gave Hermine great pleasure to share her baking with others. For years she walked Buffalo Park on a daily basis. To know her was to love her.

Hermine was a member of San Francisco de Asis Parish. A celebration of her life will be on September 25th at 10am at The Peaks. Father Santos will be celebrating the Mass.

Hermine was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her “Arizona Daughter”, Peggy Cox.
