Herman Hunt died at the age of 91 at home with the care of Alacare hospice with the loving care of nurse Susan Sieja on December 30, 2010.
He was born on September 29, 1919 in Elon, AL. He was the next to the youngest of seven children born to Charlie Hunt and Janie Lemley Hunt. He served 47 months in the Army, 33 months of which he served in the South Pacific including Guadalcanal. He was awarded the Presidential Citation and the Good Conduct Medal.
Herman was a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Jackson Way Baptist Church for forty years. He loved his family and unselfishly took care of his wife Lessie for 22 years following a major stroke. He also loved to fish and said that he knew where every stump was from Huntsville to Scottsboro.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lessie Cantrell Hunt, three sons Herman Houston Hunt II, Rex Cantrell Hunt and Danny Lee Hunt, daughter Teresa Hunt Lasseter, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Herman and his wife Lessie lived the last four years of his life at the home of his daughter Teresa and son in law Rick Lasseter.
