Herman Henry Rausch, 98, of Meredosia, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing. He was born Nov. 17, 1917, in Meredosia, the son of Herman and Ida Smith Rausch. He married Maxine Yeakel on May 5, 1937, in Winchester, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 30, 2012.

He is survived by two sons and two daughters, James Herman Rausch of Meredosia, Elizabeth Joyce (Charles) Hanson of Serena, Gary Lynn (Carole) Rausch of Meredosia, and Cathy Sue (Leland) Knott of Beardstown; twelve grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Darrell Henry Rausch; four brothers, Alvin, Emerson, Albert, and Earnest Rausch; and two sisters, Eva Little and Silva Mayes.

Mr. Rausch was a carpenter at the Jacksonville State Hospital until his retirement and was a member of Carpenters Local Union #904. He had also owned and operated a grocery store and bait shop in Meredosia for several years. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Meredosia American Legion. Herman enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and carving.
