Went to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday evening, June 8, 2019 at his residence. Herman was born May 24, 1926 in Kalamazoo the son of the late Herman, Sr. and Magdalene (Smith) VanHamersveld.
He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Prior to his retirement, Herman was the co-owner of the family business, Van’s Furniture. He was a life member of Third Christian Reformed Church where he served as Elder and Deacon, and taught Sunday School.
On June 10, 1948, Herman was united in marriage to his loving wife of nearly 71 years, Angelyn (VanAppledorn) who survives. Also surviving are his children, Dr. Daniel (Lori) VanHamersveld, Mary Vlietstra, Steven (LaTanya) VanHamersveld, David (Susan) VanHamersveld, Debra (Rob) Gray; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; his brother Dale (Dorothy) VanHamersveld; and several nieces and nephews.
