Herman Earl “Bud” Kesling, Jr., 79, of Anmoore, formerly of Clarksburg, passed away on September 24, 2012 at 2:16pm at United Hospital Center after complications following surgery on September 6th. He was born April 2, 1933 in Anmoore, WV the only son of the late Herman Earl Kesling Sr. and Mary C. Rutter Kesling. He married the love of his life, Marvis Dean Nichols Kesling on May 17, 1956 in Elizabeth City, NC who was devoted to him and by his side until the end of his earthly journey. He was the proud father of two sons, who he adored, Michael Lewis Kesling and wife Joyce Renee Dehner Kesling and Herman Keith Kesling and his companion Allison Giannone and her daughter Jordanna. He was also the very proud grandfather of five grandsons; Matthew Michael Kesling and wife Michelle Bush Kesling, Nathan Lewis Kesling and wife Kelsey Flesher Kesling, Zachary Nicholas Kesling, Ethan Earl Kesling and Benjamin Ryder Kesling. He is also survived by his only great grandson, who was his “little buddy” Caleb Lewis Kesling, and his faithful canine “Blackie”. Three cousins also survive him, Leotine Painter and Sharon Diaz, and a special cousin Harry “Sonny” Wine. He attended Anmoore Grade School and graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1951, his employment then began with Union Carbide where he worked from June 1951 until January 1952. He went on to attend Potomac State in 1952. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1952-1956, serving as core man on USS Antietam. He then returned to a law enforcement career starting at Clarksburg Police Department in 1958 and continuing until he retired with the rank of Sergeant in 1982. He was a lifetime member of the F.O.P., and earned the honor of Policeman of the year in 1972. He served as director of the school safety patrol and crossing guards from 1985-1986. He also helped Mayor Gorby with the crossing at Nutter Fort School with his grandsons. He served two terms on Clarksburg City Council from July 1, 1989 until June 30, 1997. He was a member of Mt. Zion Community Church where he served as a deacon and trustee. He served the church wherever needed and in any capacity with love in his heart. He was well known for his cooking and loved to feed other people. Even in CCU at the hospital he motioned he wanted pizza for his nurses. He loved his family dearly and will be missed greatly. He was seen in many restaurants and places with his grandsons always at his side.
