Herman Ashford, Jr. was born on July 24, 1930 in Pender County. His parents were the late John Henry and Carrie Dixon Ashford. He attended Sampson County Schools and then married Bessie Mae Carroll. To this union were born five sons, one who preceded them in death (David Floyd Ashford). He was a retired State Employee with the Department of Transportation. He was a member of New Vision Christian Church; Clinton, NC. He had very fond memories of his siblings; Merlin James, William Arthur, and Lula Jay and Nevaeh Ashford who also preceded him in death.
Fishing, hunting, listening to Quartet music and attending the Senior Center in Goldsboro NC. where he was a member of the Respite Program were some of the things that brought him joy and happiness. Our beloved father was called into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 3:00 pm at New Vision Christian Church 2102 Hobbton Hwy. Clinton with Apostle Zebedee Sheppard officiating burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Those left to cherish his memories are his four sons: Eddie Ray (Lisa) Ashford of Clinton, NC, Perry Herman (Vonder)Ashford of Goldsboro, NC, Johnny Lee Ashford of Raleigh, NC, and Matthew Sherrill (Carla) Ashford of Clinton, NC; also two sisters, Beulah Ashford of Warsaw, NC, and Hettie Mae Boykin of Clinton, NC. A brother-in-law Frank Carroll of Clinton, NC, Seven grand- children, seven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
