Herbert L. West, Jr. was born April 11, 1929 in Big Timber, MT to Herbert L. West, Sr. and Helen P. (Kennedy) West, the third of twelve children. The family traveled the Northwest, and eventually settled in Boise, ID. While in high school Dad met his best friend and the love of his life, Barbara (Bobbie) G. Kinch. He graduated from Boise High School in 1947, and he and Bobbie were married in August 1950. Shortly after their marriage, Dad was drafted and proudly served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War on the original U.S.S. Manchester, a light cruiser, from 1951-1954. Upon returning to the states, Herb began a long career as a glazier for Fuller Paint and Glass, Architectural Glass, and Automatic Door Company, retiring in 1991. Dad loved camping, fishing and being outdoors. He was a tremendous handyman and jack of all trades, and could figure out how to repair, modify, design, fabricate or manufacture just about anything. While he was still able, Dad enjoyed traveling to and attending all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s various football, soccer, basketball, lacrosse, track and swim team events. Herb died Sunday, June 21, 2015, surrounded by his family at age 86. He was preceded in death by his parents, most of his siblings, his wife of 58 years Barbara, and his great-granddaughter Jayden Miracle Lee. He is survived by his siblings Florence, Nina, Carol and Bill; his son and daughter-in-law Alan and Karla West, daughter and son-in-law Susan and Mike Urquidi; Grandchildren Katie (Brandon) Pew, Ashley (RJ) Lee, Kevin (Ariel) West, Antonio Urquidi (fiancé Kaytee Lindquist) and Isabel Urquidi; Great-Grandchildren Jaxon, Piper, and Tucker Pew; Mikyla, Taylor and Ava Lee; Claire West, and numerous nieces and family would like to thank Legacy Hospice, especially Matt, Herlinda and Rita, and Genesis Meridian Care Center, especially Mary Alice and Anthony for their time, talents, care and compassion for Dad in the last few months and days.
