Herbert Stephen Moats, 65 of Wickwire, passed away at his home, with his loving family by his side, Wednesday, February 12, 2020. He was born in Barbour County, on September 27, 1954. Steve was preceded in death by his wife Mary Sloan Moats July 22, 2018. He is survived by his mother, Gertrude Moats, Grafton.
Steve retired from American Railroad, loved spending time at Holly River State Park, riding his Kubota, and enjoyed tinkering on his projects. He loved spending time with his children, especially his grandchildren, and with his dogs, Swiper and Peanut.
He is survived by four children, Kristina Peters, and husband Jason, Grafton, Ashley K. Knotts, Evansville, Ind., Mike Moats and wife Amy, Grafton, Mark Moats and wife Cari, Flemington, thirteen grandchildren, Savanah, Garrett, Mallorie, Hannah, Tanner, Gabe, Maddie, Jayson, Noah, Jacob, Chloe, Kaleb, and Stevie, and a very special great grandchild is on the way and several brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. He loved his in-laws as his own brothers and sisters, Butch Munson, Linda Nickerson, Alfred Sloan, Terry Sloan , Rick Sloan, Tom Sloan, Donna Wagner, Donnie Cumpston.
In addition to his parents, and wife he was preceded in death by his son, Matthew D. Moats, two sisters-in-law Wanda Board and Mae Cumpston.
