Herbert Mitchell Stansbery, born November 25, 1954, departed this life on February 12, 2012 at the age of 57 years and 79 days. Known to his family and friends as Herb or Herbie, he was the fourth child born to Daryl and Edna Mitchell Stansbery. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Donald Stansbery. His siblings and their spouses, Judy and Larry Luke and Bill and Karen Stansbery and the children and grandchildren of both families survive him.
Herb spent his early years on the family farm in Warren Township.
After college he worked for Benton County Conservation Commission as a park enforcement officer for several years. Always interested in conservation with a love of the rolling hills and woods of Lucas County, he returned to Chariton in the 1980’s to work for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
Herb made friends easily with the young and the old. He enjoyed a warm relationship with his immediate family and with his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. All were special to him and they held a warm place in their hearts for Herbie.
