Herbert “Herb” Fincham, age 82, of Keymar, Maryland was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore where he battled an unexpected lung disorder.

Born June 2, 1928 in Alberton, Maryland, he was the son of the late Ernest and Ella (Corbin) Fincham. He was the dear husband of Regina Mae “Jean” (Brashears) Fincham, his wife of 52 years.

He was a devoted member of Messiah United Methodist Church in Taneytown. He was also a member of American Legion Post 109 for many years.

He proudly served as a military police officer in the United States Army in 1948 and was proud to have been assigned to protect Japan’s Emperor Hirohito.

Herb worked in the the field of transportation for over 44 years beginning with a 29 year career with Mason-Dixon Trucking Company. He later worked for Baltimore County Schools and the ARC of Carroll County. He loved working with children with disabilities and was most proud of his employment with the ARC of Carroll County. Herb was an avid gardener and kept his lawn so well manicured it was often as pretty as a golf course. He planted fruit trees and loved watching humming birds. He was an avid Maryland sports fan. He loved the Baltimore Colts, the Baltimore Orioles and never missed a Ravens football game. He also enjoyed horse racing. As a father, he could often be seen throwing a football or baseball around with his children. He loved teaching his children and grandchildren Japanese. He enjoyed steamed crabs and his wife’s specially-prepared fried oysters. During his retirement years he loved taking the train to vacation in Florida.

In addition to his wife he is survived by sons Ronald and wife Mary of Linthicum, Ernest H. of Michigan, Joseph H. and wife Denise of Colorado, and Brian Fincham of Keymar; daughters Cynthia J. Fincham of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and Dawn J. Fincham of Gettysburg; grandchildren Amber, Lindsey, Justin, Tyler, Anne, and Ronald, Jr,; a great granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Herbert Ernest Fincham; brothers, Oscar, Raymond, Cleveland and Lester; sisters, Mable Alberts, Pearl Scott, Hattie Boblitz, Pauline Kramer, Margaret Hargadon, Elsie Knight, Viola Knight and Arbutus Thacker.
