Hebert Alexander Tibbs was born on November 27, 1930 to the late Charles Henry Tibbs and Alice Laura Hamilton Tibbs.

He was first introduced to this home church, namely Mt. Zion UMC as a child where our father would make sure we had some nickels and dimes to put in the offering plate for Sunday School. Herbert’s one desire in planning for his passing was to be brought back to where he started from.

Herbert had high educational goals. After one year at Lincoln High School, he transferred to Dunbar High School in Washington, DC. After graduation, he attended Howard University where he received his Bachelor Degree. He then moved to New York and attended Columbia University where he received his Master Degree in Sociological Theories. He held the position of Assistant Director of Green Point State Hospital until its closure. He then worked at VA Hospital as a Psychiatric Social Service Worker.

He was predeceased by one sister, Ella Tibbs Thornton; two brothers, Henry and Leonard Tibbs.

He leaves to cherish his memories, two sisters, Martha Tibbs Carter (Warren), Rockville, MD; Hattie Tibbs Ward (Erie), Las Vegas, NV; one assumed sister, Etoile Hawkins (Vernon), Mitchellville, MD; two nieces: Alice Thornton and Marsha L. Carter; one nephew, Ron Thompson, Sr., three great nieces, Gina and Francesca Thornton and Jasmine Gray; 2 great nephews, Ron Thompson, Jr., and Cris N. Thompson; devoted cousin, Beulah Hamilton Sneed, other relatives and friends.
