H. Aaron ‘Greydog” Dennis left us at 0930 on Saturday 30 April 2022. He was born on 24 February 1948, to Robert Harold and Nancy Josephine Brock Dennis. He was one of 5 children (Nancy, Helen, Robert, and Mitch). He graduated from the University of Tennessee, worked in the corporate world for many years, and retired from Eglin AFB in 2021.
He was a colorful character, many of his stories reflected a life well lived with no regrets. He moved to the NW Florida Panhandle over 35 years ago living first on Holiday Isle and then moving to Shalimar. He worked in the corporate world for many years; wheeling & dealing as only he could before having a near-fatal car accident which redefined his outlook on life. He found a job at Bens Lake Marina to keep him busy in his later years. After a few years, he took on an opportunity to lead a crew of inmates doing landscaping work on the base. He was a mentor and father figure to the young men who came to work on his team, many of whom went on to be successful after finishing their custodial sentences thanks to the life skills learned while on the team, he was justifiably proud of this accomplishment. When this program ended he relocated to the Civil Engineering Squadron, but due to failing health had to retire soon after. He always had a story to share and tales to tell, they all seemed to end in laughter. He might have been 74, but his mind and attitude were of someone much younger. He loved his Dog Maxx and wearing his Fedoras, he had a collection of them.
If you were not having a great day, just talk to Greydog for 3 min, your day turned out much better than it started. He was loved by many and will leave the world a little dimmer for his passing.
