Henry Wu, age 60, of Belleville, IL, while surrounded by loved ones, passed from the troubles of this world and was welcomed into glory with Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 28, 2021.
Henry was loved by his wife Myong Sun Wu of Belleville, IL; daughter, Marlene Esther Wu and Jeffrey Alan Holt of St. Louis, MO; daughter, Precious Sarah and Curtis William Straeter, and his beloved grandson, Leif Curtis Straeter of Colorado Springs, CO; son, Samuel Richard Wu of Belleville, IL; siblings and in-laws, Paul (Betty) Wu, Joseph (Maggie) Wu, John Wu, Rose (Daniel) Shaw; nephew, Raymond (Chong) Wu; niece, Jeannie (Bill) Lister; niece Annie (Ed) Reese; nephew, Jimmy (Beng Li) Wu; niece, Melanie (Joe) Ciorciari; niece, Melinda Wu; niece, Jasmine Shaw; and nephew, Timothy Shaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents Teh Foh Wu and Bow Sun Fu of New York City, NY.
Tech Sergeant Henry Wu cherished his 20 years of service in the U.S. Air Force as a Flight Simulator Technician and Optometry Craftsman. Prior to his last assignment at Scott Air Force Base (AFB), IL, he was stationed at Lajes AFB, Azores, Vandenberg AFB, CA, March AFB, CA, Blytheville AFB, AR, McGuire AFB, NJ, and three overseas assignments in South Korea—two at Kunsan Air Base and one at Osan Air Base—each of his three children being born on one of the Korean tours (he always said there was something in the water).
His awards and decorations include the Air Force Commendation Medal (two bronze oak leaf clusters), Air Force Achievement Medal (one bronze oak leaf cluster), Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (one bronze oak leaf cluster), Air Force Good Conduct Medal (one silver oak leaf cluster), National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon (one silver oak leaf cluster), Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon (four bronze oak leaf clusters), Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and Air Force Training Ribbon.
Henry came to faith in Christ while attending Chinese Evangel Mission (CEM) in New York City. In his final days, Henry reaffirmed his faith in Jesus as his Savior and Lord. He loved sci-fi and fantasy (Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, etc.), which has passed on to his Padawan grandson, Leif. Friends and family who knew him remember his happy demeanor, voice, and laughter.
