Joseph Henry Rhoades, age 81, passed away at his residence on December 10, 2022, surrounded by family. Henry was born on April 27, 1941, in Henry County Indiana, the son of William V. and Beatrice (Sleeth) Rhoades. His family moved to Muncie in the late 1940s. He graduated from Muncie Central and was a fiercely proud Bearcat. Henry was a very kind, caring, and generous man. He liked to laugh and smile and, more importantly, he liked to see others laugh and smile. Henry spent his working life at Nelson’s Cafe, Chevrolet Muncie, and he retired from the City of Muncie. He loved to watch baseball and hockey on TV. He was an avid New York Yankees fan, and Chicago Blackhawks fan.

Henry came from a large family of 11 children. He is the last of a generation. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters; Robert J. Rhoades, William V. Rhoades Jr, Randall E. Rhoades, Charles E. “Dood” Rhoades, Franklin D. Rhoades, Phillip B. “Butch” Rhoades, Marjorie L. Carpenter, Marie A. Medsker, Margaret “Joan” Snider, and Eleanor “Jane” Carr.

Henry is survived by two sisters-in-law, Eva Mae Rhoades Craig, and Jonell Rhoades. He also leaves behind countless nephews, nieces, and friends. His gentle spirit lives on in the lives of those he touched, especially his family.
