Henry P. “Hank” Wellner Jr., 88, of Peru, passed away Tuesday morning, April 30, 2019, at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle. Mr. Wellner was born August 26, 1930, in Spring Valley to Henry and Elsie (DeCosta) Wellner.

He was a graduate of Hall High School, Class of 1948.  He married Theresa Rogel on October 9, 1954, at St. Roch’s Church, LaSalle. Mr. Wellner was a veteran of the Army National Guard. He was an enlisted member for seven years from September 1947-September 1954, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served two years of active duty in Germany from February 1952 to February 1954, as a member of Company L, 129th Regiment, during the Korean War. He was a tool and die maker for 45 years, spending 32 years at Westclox and 12 years at GO Dan Manufacturing.

Survivors include three children, Joellen (William) Nienaber of Lake Thunderbird, Michael (Ann Just) Wellner of Peru, and Julie (John) Lynch of Aurora; nine grandchildren, William (Jessica) Nienaber, Kristin (Andrew) White, Brandon (Emily) Nienaber, Ryan (Mary) Nienaber, Kayla (Justin) Miller, Katie Wellner, Johnny Lynch, Nicholas Lynch, and Abby Lynch; five great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Connor, Penelope, Paxton and Sophia and one more on the way and a special friend, Mary Jesiolowski of LaSalle.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa on April 1, 2009; his parents and grandparents, and one sister, Judy Burkett.
