Henry Joseph Harris, 76, a native of Greenville, AL and a resident of Jackson, AL, transitioned into the eternal presence of the Lord on August 18, 2018 at the home of his eldest daughter in Charlotte, NC. He was warmly surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. He was born on April 14, 1942 to the late Sandy and Essie Mae Harris. Before relocating to Jackson, he was a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Crenshaw County. He was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Rosetta Hayes Harris on April 21, 1962. They were married for fifty-five years.
Affectionately known as Joe or Mr. Joe, he was friendly and outgoing, would help anyone, loved his family, and the Lord. He often talked to others about his children, grandchildren, and great-grands. He was an encourager and shared his faith in the Lord with anyone who would listen. He was a true Dallas Cowboys and Alabama Crimson Tide fan. He had a relentless work ethic and worked for Parham & Parham for forty-six years. After retirement, he continued to work in some capacity until his wife, Rosetta, became ill. He was her devoted caregiver until he became ill in February of 2017.
He was a faithful member of Word of Truth Fellowship Church in Jackson, AL under the leadership of Pastors Marcus and Belinda Kelley. At Word of Truth, he was ordained as a deacon, mentored the ushers and served the community through the Food Outreach and Nursing Home ministries. He was also a part of a wonderful Men’s Fellowship group through Restoration Hall Christian Center under the leadership of Minister Ted Watkins. He looked forward to the weekly in-home bible study and fellowship with his devoted brothers in Christ; Min. Ted Watkins, Warren Burrell, Luther Williams, Jr. and Danny Coleman.
Joe was proceeded in death by his parents, his brother, Sammie Lee Harris, and wife, Rosetta. He leaves to cherish his memories three devoted children: son, Jerome (Brenda) Harris, Grenada, MS; two daughters Everlyn (Ray) Laffitte, Charlotte, NC and Adrian (Adrian J) Howard, Dallas, TX; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, one devoted sister, Cathleen (Bob) Crenshaw, Mobile, AL; a devoted neighbor, Warren (Bill) Burrell, devoted pastors, Marcus and Belinda Kelley, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, church family and friends.
