Henry “Hank” James Adamic, 71, passed away March 26, 2013 in Canon City, CO. He was born May 10, 1941 in Phoenix, Arizona to Henry and Cecilia (Legan) Adamic. Hank’s father was killed when he was less than a year old. After Henry’s death, Hank and his mother moved to Canon City. He spent the remainder of his childhood in Prospect Heights with his brothers, Teddy and Tommy. Hank attended elementary school at St. Michael Catholic School, then went to the Abbey for one year. He then completed his education at Canon City High School, where he enjoyed playing football. His early work experience included working for Mildred Pierce at the Prospect Heights Mercantile Store while attending high school. Hank also worked at Hilltop Market as a meat cutter, and a mill operator at Climax Company. He then enlisted in the U. S. Army, and served during the Vietnam era. After his release, Hank worked as a mechanic for the Cotter Corporation for 32 years. After his retirement, Hank worked for the Colorado Department of Corrections as an external labor supervisor and was also on the search team. During his childhood, Hank loved shooting and hunting sports. He earned the nickname “Hawk” for being such a good shot. Hank became an avid archery enthusiast, and was the Colorado State Bow-hunter Champion in 1995 and 1996. In 1998, he competed in and placed 4th in the National Bow-hunters Shoot in Aurora, Illinois. He also loved fishing, boating, and waterskiing. He always enjoyed a lively argument, which he usually won. Hank will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Mr. Adamic is survived by his sons, Joe McMillan and Gary McMillan; five grandchildren; and brothers, Tom Adamic and Ted Adamic. He is also survived by his life partner, Judy Menke; and his dog Willow. He was preceded in death by his parents.
