Henry Howard, 88, died at his home on September 17, 2018. Henry was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, AL. He graduated from Washington County High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He returned home in January of 1953 and in March married the love of his life, Shirley Waite. They were married more than 65 years. Henry was a member of Washington Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He kept his priorities in the right order, walking with Christ on a daily basis, and loving and caring for his family. Henry was an avid Bible reader and scholar from whom others sought answers. He and Shirley enjoyed traveling across country on mission trips. He retired from Olin Chemical after more than 37 years in the I&E department. Known to many as “Uncle Henry” he mentored others who looked to him for knowledge and wisdom. In retirement his many projects included raising chickens and studying Washington County and Alabama History. Those who knew him enjoyed long conversations with Henry as he shared himself, telling stories and making each one feel as if they were the only person around. His bright smile will be missed by all.
