Henry “Hank” N. Lanford Age 82 of Alma and St. Louis, formerly of Durand passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at his home.Funeral Ceremony will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Nelson-House Funeral Home with Pastor Marlene Webster officiating. Burial will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Saturday from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm.Hank was born September 5, 1932 in Flint, the son of James Edward and Mary (Larose) Lanford.Hank proudly served his country in the US Navy from January 21, 1952 to January 20, 1960. He was past commander of the VFW in Durand and active member in St. Louis. Hank was recently honored as the 2015 Grand Marshall of the Veteran’s Day parade. Hank’s greatest passion in life was to better the lives of others around him. He dedicated his time as a volunteer delivering for Meals on Wheels, driving for the Gratiot County Commission on Aging and an active member of the American Legion. Most of all, Hank looked forward to time with family and friends and especially loved to dance.Hank is survived by his son, Jeff (Pam) Lanford; daughter, Julie (Dennis) Sumbera; grandchildren, Albert Martenis III, Zachary (Mallory) Martenis, Jordan (Drew) Heavner, Seth Lanford; and great-granddaughter, Isla Martenis; sister Ethel (Charles) Howell; brother Edward Lanford and several nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his parents; brother Chuck Lanford; and sister Elaine Gates.Memorial contributions are suggested to the family.
