Henry Edward Daniels, 76, of Cambria Heights, New York transitioned on Wednesday April 8, 2020 at the New York State Veterans’ Home, St. Albans, New York. He was the eldest born son to the parents of the late Willie Pearl and Ruben Daniels, Jr. on October 9, 1943, in Elba Alabama and was baptized in Elba, Alabama at Shady Grove AME United Methodist Church. He was educated in the Elba Alabama Colored School System.
Ed as he was affectionately known, attended Queens Community College in Bayside, NY. He served in the U.S Army from November 24,1964, until November 7, 1966 and was honorably discharged. He worked for NY City Transit Authority as a conductor for 25 years.
Ed joined The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in St. Albans, NY, when he moved to Queens, NY and was an active member until his health failed. He served on various committees; Finance Committee, The Church Council, The Men’s Club, and the Usher Board.
Ed was also a member of the Cambria Heights Civic Association, the New York City Transit Retiree Association, and The St. Albans Garden Club. He was a Math wizard, an avid reader, an awesome storyteller, and his laugh was very infectious. He was kind, generous, caring and very organized a disciplinarian, of sorts. He was an amazing man, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and brother who lived a humble yet impactful life. He loved and was loved by all who knew him.
He leaves to mourn his wife Willie-Ruth Daniels, two daughters Chaundra and Kim Daniels, and his grand daughter Kayla. Seven sisters: Mary Howe, Jenette Brockton, (Enterprise, AL) Merl-Sue Daniels (Cambria Heights, NY), Juliette Andrews, Henretta Daniels, Addie-Pearl Daniels (Enterprise, AL) and Lisa Nero, (Craig Nero- Jamaica, New York). Four brothers: Huey Daniels (Benita Faye), Ruben Daniels, III (Edith). Jeffery Daniels, (Elba, AL) and Jimmy C. Daniels (Atlanta Georgia). His sister Jeanne, and brother Nathaniel precede him.
He leaves many nieces, and nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends. Special cousins: Rosie Edwards and Billy Cole.
