The Spirit Flies Home

On January 9, 2013, Henry Clayton Breedlove, went home to be with the Lord. Born on August 10, 1963 in Washington, DC, he was the son of Henry and Beverly Breedlove. Henry attended DC Public Schools and was a member of the Job Corp in the early eighties. He joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized in 1978. He was active in the church and was a member of the young adult choir, an usher, a member of the Security Ministry as well as the Hospitality Ministry. Nancy Harris often used him as a model in her fashion shows.

Henry was very outgoing and while a student at Sharpe Health School was active in wheelchair basketball and received numerous trophies. He also loved to ride horses, travel, enjoyed dominoes and a good game of cards. Henry was a dedicated Redskins fan. He could often be seen in the football or basketball stands supporting son Joshua at one of his games.

Henry worked for the Department of Navy – Bureau of Naval Personnel from 1986 to 1996. He retired due to illness. 

Henry was a free spirit and because of his dedication and devotion; he was blessed with many friends. He would often open his home to friends and family in need. Henry had a sincere nature. You knew when you spoke to him you were getting the real thing.  With Henry there was no other way to be. Henry was known as “Wee, Grasshopper, Hen and Little Henry” or “Babe” as he was affectionately called by his wife, Leslie. He answered to them all.

Henry was a supportive father to his children, Channon Clayton and Mercedez and was active in their lives. In 1995 Henry met the love of his life Leslie Jennings. They married May, 1996 after 11 months of courtship. From this union Joshua Clayton was born.

He leaves to mourn, his loving wife, Leslie, sons, Channon, Joshua, daughter; Mercedez, parents, Henry and Beverly Breedlove, sister, Elizabeth Hill, brothers, Robert, Anthony, Adrain; sister-in-law, Nanette Jennings, brother-in-law, Cedric Jennings, mother-in-law Barbara Jennings, nine aunts, two great aunts, and a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
