Helen Mondragon 1939~2015 Helen Mondragon, 75, passed from this earth on November 19, 2015, with her husband, Tony, by her side. Helen was born in Las Animas, CO to Herman and Mildred Medina on December 8, 1939, the oldest of seven children. She was wed to Tony Mondragon on September 18, 1954, and has remained his constant companion for the last 61 years. Helen carried a tenacious, if not stubborn, spirit her entire life. She spent her time on this earth creating and caring for her family, and her family’s health and happiness was always her first priority; nothing ever made her focus waiver. During her last days she held on strong, making sure her family was together and well. Her love as a mother was not reserved just for her children, as she opened her heart and home to her grandchildren, nieces, nephews and anyone else who needed her love as well. Helen was known by many names – Mom, Aunt Helen, Grandma, Granny,GG, Geeg, Sis, and My Honey as her husband Tony called her affectionately everyday. All of her names were spoken with true love and admiration. She supported her family tirelessly, whether it was running the family’s small farm or the restaurant, Mi Casita, in La Junta, CO, or helping raise her grandchildren in Texas before settling in Grand Junction to enjoy retirement with Tony and continue looking after her family. Now it is time for her to watch over her family in a different way. Helen’s love and devotion to her family will not be forgotten and her memory will live on in the hearts of those she cared for. She is survived by her husband, Tony; mother, Mildred; children, Gloria, Mike (Antionette), and Lorraine; grandchildren, Nino, Shannon, Mo, and Rachel; great-grandchildren, Dominic, Nathan, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lily, and Evelyn; great-great-grandchild, Liam; and siblings Bill (Henrietta), Irene (Jerry), Georgia, Larry, and Liz. She was preceded in death by her father Herman Sr., brother Diddo, and grandson Mario.
