Helen (Chesanek) Sutherland, 82, of Plainville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the Hebrew Health Care Center in West Hartford. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Chester A. Sutherland, who predeceased her in 2006.
Helen was born in Plainville on November 15, 1928, one of four children to the late Frank and Helen (Petrovsky) Chesanek. A lifelong resident, she was a 1946 graduate of Plainville High School. She married the love of her life, Chester, on her 19th birthday, November 15, 1947. Together they shared close to 60 years of love and devotion, and brought into this world their two adored children. While raising her family, she was employed at Finast Food Stores, retiring in 1979. They enjoyed many years of traveling, camping and going on cruises, and Helen supported Chester through his many years of civic and community duties. Helen was the proudest grandmother to her two adored grandsons and found her greatest joy was at home, close to her family and friends. She leaves her family with many happy memories, and will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry A. and Barbara Sutherland of Plainville; her daughter and son-in-law, Linda A. Grabulis and Rich Raisner of Farmington; her grandsons, Michael Paul Grabulis of Farmingon and Justin Thomas Sutherland of Westerly, RI; along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Frank and John Chesanek and Mary Mel.
Honoring her wishes, Helen’s family will celebrate her life privately.
