Helen Sabha, 88, of Jersey City entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 15, 2023. Helen was born in Beracha within Northern Mount Lebanon in June of 1934. She was very proud of her hometown as it housed the famous cedars of Lebanon and it neighbored her favorite Saint Charbel’s hometown Bqaa Kafra. Her grandfather was a Maronite priest and her father a poet. Helen’s sister, Hind Chaar, dedicated her life to being a Nun in the convent in Lebanon. With the encouragement of her mother’s family, Helen received a degree in Nursing and then married shortly after and had 6 children; Renee, Joseph, Samar, Bassam, Lina, and Rita. They resided in Ashrafieh, Beirut during the 70s and 80s. In 1989, she arrived in New Jersey, USA with her son, Bassam, to reunite with her daughter, Lina, and helped raise her two sons.
Helen had a fond passion for cooking delicious Lebanese dinners for her family, friends, and neighbors. She had a love for gardening and taking long walks in nature. She led a life of prayer to her favorite saints: St. Charbel, St. Rita, St. Rafqa and always made sure to visit Our Lady of Harrissa in Lebanon continuously throughout her life. Helen was surrounded by the love of her children and grandchildren both in the US and Lebanon who loved her so much. Her motherly love and unwavering dedication to her children will never be forgotten. She will be greatly missed by us all.
