She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Harold Green, Leo Green, and Ralph Green; two sisters, Hazel Anderson and Pearl Simmons Fico; and her son-in-law, Lowell Joslyn. Helen graduated from Scotts High School, the third highest in her class, in 1935. Both of her children graduated from Climax-Scotts, as well as all four of her grandchildren, and her oldest great-granddaughter. Helen was a lifelong resident of the Climax and Scotts areas. Helen was a homemaker for 25 years and she helped Cliff work their farm. Upon raising her children, she decided to seek employment outside the home.

She was a cook at Two John’s in Battle Creek for a couple of years and then took a key-punching course at Kellogg Community College and obtained employment at TransAmerica Insurance Company. After 15 years of service, Helen retired from TransAmerica as a Supervisor in 1983. Helen was an active member of the Eastern Star since 1947. She served as Worthy Matron in 1956 and served as Secretary for 47 years. When the Climax Chapter closed, she continued her participation with the Bedford Chapter. She was instrumental in pulling off many Eastern Star Dinners.

Helen attended the Climax United Methodist Church and was very active in her Church, singing in the Church Choir and working on numerous Church breakfasts/dinners with her good friend, Eleanor Smith. Helen was an Honorary Member of the Climax Rotary, where she and Eleanor Smith served many Rotary meals for a number of years. She was the Grand Marshall of the Climax Founder’s Day Festivities in 1994.

Helen was fortunate to travel abroad with one of her friends, she went on a cruise with her daughter, Lois, and she rode in a hot air balloon tethered to the ground. Helen enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, word search puzzles, and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. But her greatest passion was her family, especially her grandchildren. The license plate on her car appropriately read “Let Me Tell You About My Grandchildren” and her grandchildren were her favorite topic of discussion. Anyone who knew Helen had the good fortune of getting to know all about her grandchildren. Helen was the matriarch of her family and will be greatly missed! She was one well-known lady with an endless dedication to her family, her Church, and her community.
