Helen Paula Medler, 92, of Freeport, died Thursday, June 9, 2016, at Pearl Pavilion in Freeport, surrounded by her family.
Helen was born July 13, 1923 in Jefferson City Missouri and baptized July 27, 1923. She was the daughter of Henry and Wanda (Lehr) Sommerer.
She married Donald W. Medler on September 11, 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Honey Creek, Missouri. They were blessed with seven children Daniel (Patricia), Donna, Carol, Linda, Thomas (Susan), John and Grace. Grandchildren Michael (Melissa), Kimberly, Jordan and Danielle. Great grandchild Kensley. She cared for her four special children, Donna, Linda, John and Grace for nearly fifty years in her home. She called them her special gifts from God. Helen also taught handicapped children at St Francis Home. Helen loved to take long rides in the country with children, her church, gardening, and being outdoors. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren along with one sister Ruth Sommerer.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Donald, parents Henry and Wanda Sommerer, four brothers Paul, Edgar, Rudy, and Otto, four sisters Louise, Erna, Clara, and Ester.
