Helen O. Doonan passed away on Friday, March 23, 2007, in Phoenix, Arizona. She was recuperating from a broken hip.
She was born in Flora Vista, New Mexico, on March 29,1913, and was the eighth ;child of Edward Tilton and Sadie Mae Macy. She attended High School at Durango High School in Durango,; Colorado, where she met Jim Doonan. They were married in Durango, and moved to Winslow in 1929, because of her sister, Estella and her husband, Roy Kincanon, who worked for Babbitt Bros. Jim managed stores for Babbitt Bros. in Winslow for 13 years before going into business for himself. Over the years, he owned the Winslow Taxi Company, the Winslow City Bus Line, the Winslow Touring Company, a recreation center and worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a Fireman.
Helen ran Helen’s Floral and taught music lessons. Musically talented, they formed a band with other musicians in the Winslow area and they played for all the activities in Winslow, Northern Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado. In the 1940s, Helen played with different groups in California, which included the Ina Ray Huttlon All Girl Orchestra and Denny Fisher’s All Girl Orchestra, to name a few. In 1938, Donald O’Connor and his family played at the Rialto Theatre for several weeks, and she played for them. They were married for 64 years, and had two girls, Darleon and Carol Lee “Dude”. Carol Lee was killed in an automobile accident in 1951. Jim passed away in 1993. Jim and Helen moved to Glendale, Arizona in 1978. After Jim passed away, she lived with her daughter, Darleon in Phoenix, until it was necessary for her to live in a adult care home.

Colorado, Patti and Stan Neil, of Durango, Colorado, Rusty, Derek Neil and Trish Wadsworth of Durango, Colorado, Howard Lee and Lynn Giles of Dallas, Texas, Sue Dirks, of Carmel, Indiana, Jo and Michell Macy, of Prescott, Jackie, Jodi and Jaimie Macy.
