Helen Nolting, 99, of Carbondale, formerly of Centralia, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2018 in Louisville, Kentucky.
She was born October 27, 1918 in Centralia, daughter of Edward G. Heiss and Leah K. (Hahn) Heiss. She married Julius A. Nolting on October 14, 1942 and he preceded her in death on April 16, 2005.
Helen is survived by two daughters: Mary A Nichols of Indianapolis, Indiana and Nan E. Tate of Louisville, Kentucky; four grandchildren: Doris Proctor of Dallas, TX, Roy Kleeman of Indianapolis, Indiana, Janet Sewell of Louisville, Kentucky, and Karen Tate of Denver, Colorado; four great-grandsons: Seth Proctor, Cole Proctor, Mitch Kleeman, and Lucas Kleeman; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother: Edward W. Heiss and a sister: Mary K. Heiss.
Helen lived in Centralia for 51 years and then moved to Carbondale for 41 years. She was initiated into the Centralia Eastern Star Chapter 353, transferring to Carbondale’s chapter when she moved. She and her husband served as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron of Carbondale’s chapter. She was a DAR member for 75 years with the Prairie State Chapter in Centralia. She was active in the Carbondale Memorial Hospital Auxiliary by volunteering in the Pink Geranium Shop. She volunteered in the Jackson County Home Extension and a sorority in Carbondale. Helen was an avid quilter, knitter, and seamstress.
