Helen Margaret Kachelhoffer Miner, 94, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Salem, Oregon, passed away June 5, 2007, at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake. She was born on August 27, 1912, in Ackley, Iowa, to Victor Edward and Mable Brown Kachelhoffer. Helen attended the public schools at Ackley, graduating from High School in 1930. She then went on to further her education at the University of Iowa, graduating in 1935, with Bachelor of Science Degree and graduating with Nurse Certification. While in High School, Helen organized the school library and served as Head Librarian during her junior and senior years. She was active in numerous scholastic and social organizations, both in high school and college. Helen had a wide variety of nursing experiences from private care to supervising in large city institutions and was a personal assistant to a SUI Hospital doctor doing specialized exams. She also worked in first aide on a very restricted construction job for the War Department in Idaho, during WW II. While living in Belmond, Helen was very active in 4-H, while Carl was working as a Products control Chemist for General Mills at the Iowa Soy Bean Plant. In Oregon, she was a member of numerous clubs, such as Stamp, Camera, Geology Society, Native Plant Society, Garden club and the Historical Society. Helen was a member of Eastern Star and White shrine. She also worked part time in various nursing homes. Carl was employed as a Materials Testing Engineer for the State of Oregon. Helen is survived by her sister, Jean K. Arthur of Spirit Lake.
