Helen (Gruich) Rusyn, 94, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Fleming Island, Fl.
Helen was born May 20, 1923 to Isaac and Teresa (Kititich) Gruich in Akron and had been an area resident her entire life. She was a 1941 graduate of East High School. She worked at BF Goodrich making life rafts during WWII. She married Police Officer Peter J. Rusyn in 1950 and had two girls, Patricia J. Parkins (deceased) and Cheryl A. Masters. While raising the girls she worked as a realtor.
Helen was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church, the Christ Child Society, Police Retirees and Widows, VFW Auxiliary and Summa Women’s Board. She volunteered at the Summa Gift Shop and was a 50 year member of the Good Park Women’s Golf League. She will be missed by her many friends including golfing buddy of 53 years Nancy Hoeman and high school friend Flo Livers.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Major Peter Rusyn, APD and daughter Patricia Parkins, and siblings Katharine, Zora, Simon, Nick and George. She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Masters; sons-in-law Richard T. Masters and Don Parkins; grandsons Peter J. Parkins and Dylan Masters and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to niece Debbie Gruich and neighbors Al and Freida Monzo.
