Mother Helen Marie (Dorsey) Wilson made her transition from Labor to Reward, when God called her name on the afternoon of August 30, 2021 in Indianapolis, IN.
Mother Helen Marie Dorsey Wilson was born on January 3, 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Walter Dorsey and Margaret “Maggie” Perry Dorsey.
She attended Indianapolis Public Schools, school #26 and Crispus Attucks High School.
On September 13, 1943 Helen Marie Dorsey Wilson was married to the late James C. Wilson, Sr. to that union they had 10 children (5 boys and 5 girls).
Helen was a stay-at-home mom and was the babysitter for her mother and sisters. She was also known as the family’s beautician. Helen loved baking, cooking, and sewing quilts. Helen’s grandchildren’s requested specialties were homemade cheesecakes, butterscotch pies, lemonade meringue pies, chocolate pies, peanut brittle, white chocolate pretzels and chocolate fudge.
Helen attended Edna Martin Center along with her three sisters and they loved to play Pokeno and Bingo. They are known as the “Golden Girls”
Helen was family oriented and spent a tremendous about of time with her grandchildren, especially on the weekends. She taught the grandchildren how to play bingo, Pokeno, and Chinese checkers.
In her later years, Helen worked for a daycare center taking care of infants and youth and cooking their meals. Helen retired in the early 1990’s.
Helen loved listening to gospel, blues, and jazz music.
Helen was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, aunt, sister, friend, and cousin.
Helen Marie Dorsey Wilson departed this life on Monday, August 30, 2021 at the age of 93 years, 6 months, and 30 days.
Helen was preceding in death by her mother (Margarette), father (Walter), son’s (James Charles, Jr. and Reginald Lee) and sister’s (Henriette, Marjorie, and Mary Alice) and brother’s (Charles, James, and Walter, Jr).
Helen leaves to cherish her memories; daughter’s Violet Currin (Jerry), Delease Parks, Sandra Westmoreland (James deceased), Yvonne Wilson (Ervin), and Benita Kimbrough, son’s Lesley Wilson, Don Wilson, and Gerald Wilson (Carolyn) and sister’s Wilma Dorsey, Norma J.
