Helen Machisak Sorensen, 97, died on May 14 in Meridian, Idaho.  She was born during the First World War in Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania, the seventh of nine children. Her parents, Andrew Machisak and Mary Evans, immigrated from eastern Europe in the late 19th century.  Following the death of her father in a coal mining accident in 1921, Helen lived in Nesquehoning until the Second World War.  She then moved to Plainfield, New Jersey, and supported the war effort working for General Electric.  In the late 1940s, Helen moved to Upland, California, where she married and raised two daughters.  She worked for many years at San Antonio Community Hospital.  Following her retirement in the mid 1980s, she lived briefly in Grass Valley, California, Phoenix, Arizona, and Bountiful, Utah, before moving to Meridian.
