Helen M. Prokupek, age 93, of Salem, died at 2:20 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2012 at the Courtyard at Lexington in Salem. She was born May 8, 1919 in Salem, Ohio, the daughter of the late William and Veronica (Hergenrother) Scheuring. Helen was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church, C. D. of A., life member of the Art Guild, former member of the YWCA, and a graduate of Shaler Township High School. Her husband, Arnold F. Prokupek, whom she married, Sept. 20, 1942, preceded her in death December 22, 2005. She was also preceded in death by a sister Vera Mae Gilroy and two brothers, William and Wayne Scheuring. Survivors include three daughters, Alice Ann Gunning of Salem, Jeannie (John Fedorek of Las Vegas, NV, and Joyce (Edward) Cyrus of Orange, VA; a son, Dennis (Marge) Prokupek of Stateville, NC; five sisters, Mary Rafferty of Hartville, OH, Virginia Haas of Tarpon Springs, FL, Winifred Ritter and Wilma Haney both of Pittsburgh, PA and Millie Voll of Tom’s River, NJ; two brothers, Richard Scheuring and George Scheuring both of Pittsburgh, PA; 8 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
