Helen Lucille Eagle Sloat of Springfield formerly of Centralia passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg, IL. Ms. Sloat was born on July 16, 1922, in Mendota, IL the daughter of Thomas Rubin Eagle and Luella (Davidson) Eagle.
She married James Leroy Sloat on Sept. 21st, 1940 and he preceded her in death on April 24, 2004. Ms. Sloat was a homemaker and worked at the body shop and was an excellent sander, painter, and buffer and helped redo the interiors of the automobiles her family worked on.
She is survived by one son Thomas Lee Sloat of Fulton, MO; one sister Irene Eagle Thoroman; a step-sister Dorothy Bradshaw; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and 2 nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Luella Eagle, husband James; a son William “Bill” Sloat; a sister; Florence Carman McClelland; and a brother Charles William Eagle.
