Helen Lowry Smith, 87, of Newington, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2015 at Autumn Lake Healthcare. Born in Hartford, daughter of the late Cyril Smith, Sr. and Helen (Lowry) Smith, she was a Newington resident since 1958 and a longtime member of the Red Hat Society. Lowry retired from CNA Insurance after many years of employment. She loved animals, especially dogs and enjoyed cooking. She was also an accomplished knitter, making clothing and other items for family and friends. A loving and devoted sister and aunt, she leaves her brother Joseph Smith and his wife Patricia of Wethersfield, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She also leaves her sister-in-law Shirley Smith of Northford. She was predeceased by her brother Cyril Smith. Her family would like to extend their gratitude to Masonicare for the care and compassion shown to Lowry, especially from staff members Jan and Linda.
