Helen L. Thomas, 95, of Lafayette, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022, at Five Star Residences, Lafayette.
She was born November 17, 1926, in Heyworth, IL, to the late Coy Oscar and Alta B. (Boswell) Young. Helen graduated from Kelly High School in Chicago and worked as an Event Planner for Thomas Duncan Community Hall, Lafayette. On February 14, 1948, she married Doit Burl Thomas in Henderson, KY, he preceded her in death.
She was a member of Apostolic Faith Assembly Church where she taught Sunday School for over 25 years and was also very active in all other church activities. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, and fishing.
She is survived by her 4 nieces, Janice (Junior) Wynn, Anita C. (Jerry) Brooks, Donna Barbee, Carol Barbee (Robert) Bennett, and Mary Barbee; 6 nephews, David Wilson, Michael Rustemeyer, Richard Rustemeyer, Mark Rustemeyer, Steve Young, and Jerry Barbee. Also, several great nieces and nephews survive.
Along with her husband, Doit (Barney), she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Lynn; nephew, Kenneth Wilson; 3 sisters, Ava Wilson, Gladys Rustemeyer, and Dorothy Barbee; 3 brothers, Roy Young, Ozzie Young, and Bobby Gene Young.
