Helen Kraus M.D. passed away peacefully at her home in Cocoa Beach, Florida, October 26, 2019, surrounded by loving family.  Helen was born in Liverpool, England to Michael Kraus M.D. and Mary Teresa Kraus (née Mathews). The family immigrated to the United States of America in 1955. She was raised in Park Ridge, Illinois and received her Bachelor of Science summa cum laude from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana. She was a member of the first class of women to graduate from the university. She went on to attend Northwestern University Medical School, Chicago, Illinois where she completed both medical school and her residency. After residency, she completed a fellowship in pediatric plastic surgery at Children’s Memorial Hospital Chicago. She became a board-certified plastic surgeon in 1989.  She went on to establish successful medical practices in Chicago, Illinois, and Orlando, Florida.

Helen met and married Daniel H. Carter in 1985.  Along with her demanding career, their three children, Andrew, Alexandra, and Paul, became the primary focus of her life. As time permitted, Helen sat on school boards, taught Sunday school and volunteered at bird sanctuaries.  Helen was a devout Roman Catholic, and was president of the Orlando Guild of the Catholic Medical Association for several years.

Her parents and infant sister, Theresa Anne, were waiting for her in Heaven.  She is survived by her devoted husband and children; brother Michael Kraus (Joyce); sisters Elizabeth Kraus Russell (Richard) and Susan Kraus (Jack Taddeo); and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, grand-nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.

Proverbs Chapter 31, verses 30 and 31

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
