Helen Jean (Baca) Smunt, 69, of Peru, passed away June 14, 2016 at Tomahawk Hospital, Tomahawk, WI.

Helen was born on September 25, 1946 in Joliet to John and Genevieve (Wiechec) Baca. She married Frank Smunt on May 31, 1969 at St. Joseph Church in Lockport. She worked as a Registered Nurse for 17 years and then was Senior Operations Director for Interim Healthcare based out of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She was a member of UNOS-United Network for Organ Sharing, a non for profit organization which coordinated U.S. organ transplant procurement and transplant program throughout the country. Helen gave her daughter, Tammy a second chance at life again 10 years ago when she donated her kidney. She was also a member of the National Cancer Foundation and American Nurses Association.

Helen passed away doing what she loved, she was fishing in Tomahawk, WI with her brother, a family tradition she devotedly carried on. She loved her home and outdoor spaces. Her yard was filled with beautiful flowers which brought her simple happiness.

Helen loved life, she was a true giver and a gregarious individual who was always there to share and help others.

Her clothes made her stylish and classy and her heart was full of warmth. She loved to travel. She had compassion for anyone and everything that crossed her path in life. No one ever arrived at her home without feeling welcome, loved, nor left hungry.

Helen had many hobbies including crafts, gardening, cooking, traveling, camping, fishing, candles and fashion.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; 3 children, Dawn (Eric) Bubelis of Denver, CO, Michelle Smunt of Peru and Tammy Smunt of Denver, CO; 4 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Thomas (Barbara) Baca of Seneca, SC, Robert (Jodie) Baca of Eau Claire, WI and Richard Baca of Joliet; 2 sisters, Mary Frances (Andrew) Kelly of Lockport and Deborah Massey of Braidwood and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents.
