Helen (Ross) Hurray, age 94, of Dayton Ohio, formerly of Salem, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2015. She was born November 27, 1920 in Waterbury, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Harry and Esther (Johnson) Ross. She was a graduate of Crosby High School in Waterbury. After attending the University of Connecticut and Southern Seminary College, she enrolled in the Nursing program at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City where she graduated in 1943. She enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served at Scott Field (now Scott A.F.B.) in Belleville, Illinois where she was married in 1945 to her husband, the late Dr. Joseph J. Hurray of Salem. Her husband, Dr. Hurray preceded her in death in 1981. Mrs. Hurray resided in Salem from 1945 to 1987, in Sarasota, Florida until 2008, and then in Dayton. In Sarasota, she volunteered in the “Baby Cuddler Program” in the neonatal unit at Sarasota Memorial Hospital for several years. Dr. Hurray preceded her in death in 1981. In Salem, Mrs. Hurray worked for several years as an RN at the Salem City Hospital and was a member of St Paul Catholic Church. She also belonged to the Salem Garden Club, Salem Country Club, the Vasa Lodge of Youngstown, and to a bridge club for many years. Mrs. Hurray is survived by four loving children: Mary Jo (Hart) Jacobsen of Lander, Wyoming; Jack (Ann) Hurray of Ellenton, Florida; Barbara (Steve) Hess of Clayton, Ohio; and Mark (Joan) Hurray of Bridgman, Michigan; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
