Mrs. Helen Estes Thompson was born November 14, 1919 in Lagrange Georgia and was the second eldest child born to the late Loyd Lemuel and Annie Evelyn Cooley Estes. She was educated in the LaGrange Schools. Ironically, her father, brothers, and future husband would all work for Georgia Power. After settling in Newnan, Helen and her husband, the late Ernest Woodrow Thompson would operate their own business on Greenville Street for many years.

Thompson Grocery was a welcome landmark and a good place to do business on Newnan’s growing south side. Helen’s family would ground their faith in her beloved Newnan First Baptist Church. It would provide a Christian education for her children and a place of service for her. She enjoyed being a part of the Joy/Euzelian Sunday School Class and she taught a children’s class for years. Helen kept a writing in her Bible that talked about dealing with life’s circumstances. “For there is no night without dawning, I know that ‘my morning’ is near.” This positive attitude would serve her well over the years as she dealt with her husband’s last illness and the loss of other family members.

Even in her own last years, when it became apparent that she could not manage her own care, she boldly made a decision to seek the help and living accommodations that would best benefit herself and her family. In addition to her parents, her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson Britt Byron Binion, a great grandson Ryan Boslet, a son-in-law Johnny Johnston, 2 brothers and three sisters. Mrs.

Thompson is survived by her daughters Jacqueline T. Binion and her husband Jack of Newnan and Judy T. Johnston of Talbotton. Her grandchildren are Sandra Ellen Boslet and her husband Chris, Mandy Jackson and her husband Marshall, Scott Kirkland and his wife Miriam. There are 9 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Her surviving brother is Clarence Estes and his wife Virginia of St. Simons. Mrs. Thompson’s family wishes to acknowledge the extraordinary care given to her during her years at Newnan Health and Rehab as well as the support of Affinis Hospice.

Thanks, also, to Gloria Fields who was an amazing helpmate to both Mrs. Thompson and her family during this time. Mrs. Thompson was laid to rest beside her husband at Forest Lawn Memorial Park where a family service was held. McKoon Funeral Home.
