Bethel resident, Helen Edge Lilienthal, 79, passed away Monday, January 18, 2021, at Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Regional Hospital in Bethel, Alaska. She was born February 28, 1941, in Moroyak, Alaska, the daughter of Teddy and Agnes Clark. Helen had been a Magistrate in Bethel for many years, she also spent time working with state legislators from the Bethel region.
Helen was a proud Yupik and enjoyed the subsistence lifestyle she grew up with. From picking berries, catching and putting up fish and wild game, native arts and crafts, native foods, and teaching others the ways of the Yupik. She will be remembered by many for her kindness and willingness to help others.
Helen is survived by two daughters: Evelyn (Mark) Phillips of San Antonio, Texas and Myra (Scott) Middleton of Anchorage; Two brothers: Johnny Clark and Nicholai Clark of Anchorage: three sisters Katie Pete of Bethel, Minnie Cleveland, and Ann Koester of Anchorage: Six grandchildren: Robyn (Micah) Rodriguez of Albuquerque, NM, Lorissa and James Middleton of Anchorage, David Phillips of Frederick, MD, Michael Phillips of San Antonio, TX and Nathan Phillips of Glen Burnie, MD; and one great-grandchild Maximilian Rodriguez. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Alec and Alexander Clark, and three husbands; Jackie Berry, Andrew Edge, and Jack Lilienthal.
