Helen D. Watson, 83, of Elkhart, went home to be with the Lord while at Elkhart General Hospital at 11:55 a.m. Sunday, June 15, following an extended illness.

She was born in Staunton, Va., on June 10, 1931, to the late Alexander and Carrie Grant. She was also preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters

Surviving are her daughters, Helen McDaniel and Pastor Shirley (Randy) Fox, both of Elkhart; her sons, Mark Cranmer of Elkhart, Tim (Debbie) Cramner of Osceola and Paul Watson Jr. of Elkhart; sisters Violet McMinn of South Bend and Barbara (Joe) Patterson of Lyndhurst, Va.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Helen worked for nearly 37 years at Elkhart’s Federal Paperboard as a quality control specialist, and she was a member of New Testament Bible Church. She was a devoted mother whose family meant the world to her. She enjoyed southern cooking, baking and keeping her home spotless. She wouldn’t think twice about reaching out to those in need, whether it was money, clothing or heaping helpings of her famous southern fried chicken, potato soup or rice pudding.

Helen’s family also appreciates the wonderful care provided to their mother by Dr. Carolyn Hudson, nurse Cathy and the staff of Elkhart General Hospital’s second floor medical unit.
