Helen M. (Curtin) Carella, 89, of Hartford, died peacefully in the comfort of her home on Monday, April 21, 2014, with her loving family by her side. She enjoyed Easter Sunday surrounded by her family, after carefully planning the meal and caring for all the details. She was the beloved wife of the late Matthew J. Carella, Sr. Born in Quincy, MA, she was a lifelong Hartford resident and retired from Hartford Hospital after 28 years of employment. Mrs. Carella was an avid NY Yankees fan and enjoyed following UConn basketball. She had a strong sense of family and was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves her son Matthew J. Carella, Jr., of Newington; daughter, Debra Cope and her husband Christopher, of Hartford; daughter Beverly Carella, her husband Herve Russo, and grandson Matthew Carella Russo, with whom she made her home in Hartford; grandchildren, Yvonne Johnson and Paul Wilczawski, Kimberly McBrien, Dawn Falcon and her husband Todd, and Cheryl Lynn Carella and Edward DellaRippa; great grandchildren, Janice Black and her husband Jason, Nicole, Joseph, Veronica, Adrian, Chanell, Izabella and Victoria. She also leaves her brothers-in-law John Carella of Rocky Hill, Frank Droney of West Hartford; sisters-in-law Eleanor Colangelo of Manchester, Doris Curtin of Unionville; and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her daughter-in-law Cheryl-Anne Carella; brothers, Joseph and Francis Curtin; and sisters, Mary Rucci and Veronica Droney.
