Helen C. Patrou, 77, of Freeport, died Monday, April 12, 2004, at FHN Memorial Hospital.Born May 4, 1926 in Freeport she was the daughter of John and Vaseleke (Svolos) Chiames.
She married John T. Patrou October 12, 1947 at Grace Episcopal Church in Freeport. She graduated fourth in her class at Freeport Senior High School in 1944 and later attended Lake Forest College. Over the years she was employed at Crum & Forster Insurance Group, Micro Switch, and State Bank of Freeport. She was a member of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Freeport, St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Rockford.
She enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Women’s Golf Association at the Freeport Country Club for over 40 years. Her other interests included reading, playing bridge, and spending time with her family. In her early years she enjoyed playing the piano and sang in choirs at Grace Episcopal Church and Embury United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, John, former Vice President of General Casualty Insurance, of Freeport; one daughter, Elizabeth “Liz” A. Patrou of Long Beach, California; one son, Theodore “Ted” Patrou of Middleton, Wisconsin; one grandson, Moses J. Patrou of Brooklyn, New York. Her parents, who operated the Freeport Lunch Restaurant for many years, preceded her in death.
