Helen C. Moore, 88, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. Helen was born October 18, 1925 in Atoka, Oklahoma to James and Celia Crawford.

She was the “baby sis” to nine brothers and sisters. Helen graduated in 1943 from Eagletown High School where she played basketball for four years and began her love of cooking and home economics. World War ll was still raging and shortly after her marriage to Jasper “Jake” G. Moore on April 22, 1944 the young couple moved to Portland Oregon to work in the US Navy shipyards. Following the war in 1945 the couple moved to Long Park, Arizona.

A year later they relocated to Happy Jack, Arizona where they raised their three children. Helen was an active member of the small logging community, volunteering at school, for community events and being a friend to everyone. In 1956 the family moved to Flagstaff. Helen went to work as a cashier for Babbitt’s Grocery and retired from Safeway in 1987. She was voted “Friendliest Cashier” while working at Safeway.

Helen is survived by her husband of 69 years, Jake of Flagstaff. Her children Sandra (Silas) of Delta Junction, Alaska, Gail (Reggie) of Cave Creek, Arizona and Keith (Debbie) of Flagstaff, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her parents and 6 siblings.

Her friendly smile and warm hugs will be missed by family and her many friends. She loved being with people, cooking and crocheting.
