Helen C. Heavner Henley, 81 years, of Lakewood, WA and formerly of Jacksonville, IL died Monday, August 7, 2006 at her residence following a four month battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born in 1924 in Jacksonville, IL; the daughter of Margarite Bennet and Egbert Hunt. She married Robert Wayne Doc Henley Sr. on February 15, 1958 and he preceded in death on June 19, 1977.

She is survived by three daughters, Linda Johnson (husband, Joel) of Kent, WA, Ann Morgan of Memphis, TN, and Ritajo Brake (husband, Randy) of Puyallup, WA; four grandchildren, Nicki McQuillen (husband, Will), Shawn South (husband, Steve), Ryan Brake, and Laura Brake; three great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Donna Henley Yates of Jacksonville, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Robert W. Henley Jr..

Mrs. Henley graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1943 and attended Brown’s Business College prior to her employment as a bookkeeper for the Stubblefield, Corrington, and Houston automobile dealerships in Jacksonville. The family relocated to Burlington, IA due to her husband’s work with S.S. Kresge Company. They moved to Tacoma, WA in 1971 where her husband managed a Kmart store. After 20 years of homemaking, she returned to the workforce in 1977 as a personnel manager for the Kmart Corporation, retiring in 1988.

While active in her Lakewood, WA community, she never missed a J.H.S. Class of 1943 reunion or the chance to reconnect with family and friends in Jacksonville. She performed volunteer work for St. Clare Hospital and was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Oakbrook Country Club. She enjoyed entertaining and gardening at her home and was always ready for a good game of bridge. She appreciated the fellowship her membership in P.E.O. afforded her and loved all the wonderful women she came to know as a result.
