Helen Ann (Ogden) Westring, age 101 of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed away September 22, 2020 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Helen was born February 7, 1919 in Osceola, Nebraska to Walter and Lillian (Sisty) Ogden. She attended school in Osceola and graduated from Osceola High School in 1937. After graduation she attended beautician school and opened a shop in Stromsburg and worked seven years as a beautician.
On February 24, 1945 she was united in marriage to Carl Westring. To this union five children were born.
Helen helped with the family Feed Mill and Turkey businesses for many years. She and Carl retired in 1977 and enjoyed 18 years of retirement prior to Carl’s passing in 1995.
Helen was know for her Angel collection. Other hobbies included quilting, sewing, needlepoint, embroidery, ceramics and volunteering for church and community events. She also loved baking and was well known for her Swedish Tea Rings and Rye Bread.
Helen was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church for many years. She also enjoyed volunteering for the Stromsburg Senior Center, including delivery of Meals on Wheels. She loved volunteering for many church and community events.
Most of all Helen loved her family and the special moments she spent with each of them.
Survivors include her children: three daughters Susan (Al) Coenen of Sauk Centre, MN, Paula (Al) Dunahoo of Dickson, TN, and Marla Bucher of Dover, AR; two sons Craig (Peg Zimmerman) Westring and Terry (Barbara) Westring, both of Stromsburg; 10 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; Craig’s extended family, and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lillian; husband Carl; son-in-law Sam Bucher; siblings, Bud Ogden, Dale Ogden, Lorraine Thompson and Jean Dingman.
