Hector Zamora, Sr.

June 7, 1946 – January 21, 2022

Hector Zamora Sr. passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, Jan. 21, 2022. He was 75 years old.

Hector graduated from La Joya High School in 1965. He played football and baseball, and he was a good athlete. He graduated from The University of Texas-Pan American in 1971. Following his graduation, he began his coaching and teaching career in Harlingen and Weslaco until his retirement. He was a proud veteran, having served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968.

Hector will be fondly remembered for his passion for conversation. Don’t attempt to argue with him if he thought he was right! He was also a very talented artist. He was commissioned for the building of the Iwo Jima monument and Rio Fest. He was always helpful with any task asked of him, and he was a skilled handyman. He could fix your roof, the acoustics inside your house, repair your alternator, bando and paint your vehicle. The task was almost endless if it had to do with something manual.

His greatest passion was being a grandfather, and there wasn’t a single thing he wouldn’t do for his grandchildren. Without a doubt, he will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.

Hector is preceded in death by his son Hector Zamora Jr. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ana Maria “Annie”, and his two daughters Maria Annette Schroeder and Adina Michelle Gonzalez: his four grandchildren Ava Mercedes Schroeder, Sofia Mariel Schroeder, Emiliano “Rocky” B. Gonzalez and Olivia Rose Catalina Gonzalez, his brother, Robert Zamora Sr. and his sister, Olivia Ervine.
