Hazelmae “Toots” Schreeg, age 90 passed away October 9, 2011 at the George Ade Memorial Healthcare Center, Brook, Indiana. The daughter of Harry and Opal (Iliff) Hermanson, Hazelmae was born at the family home on February 10, 1921. A resident of Rensselaer, Hazelmae attended elementary school in Rensselaer and Parr.
She graduated from Fair Oaks High School with the class of 1939. In Rensselaer on April 8, 1945, Hazelmae was married to Lawrence E. Schreeg who passed away July 2, 1976.
Hazelmae was a homemaker. She had been employed with the Internal Revenue Service for two years and later with Schreeg Insurance Agency. A member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rensselaer, Hazelmae had been active in both the choir and bell choir, and had served as church treasurer.
She was a 25 year member of the Rensselaer Care Center Auxiliary, a member of the Jasper County Hospital Auxiliary, Sigma Phi Gamma and the Red Hat Society. She was a diehard Cub’s fan, an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards, reading, working crossword puzzles and flower gardening.
Surviving are two children, Tim (Pama) Schreeg of Rensselaer and Thom (Penny) Schreeg of South Bend; four grandchildren, Ashley Hughes, Brandon (Elizabeth) Schreeg, Jacob Schreeg and Amanda Schreeg, three great-grandchildren, Jackson and Adelyn Hughes, and Benjamin Schreeg and one brother, Dale Hermanson of Rensselaer. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one sister and one brother.
